PragmaCharge to launch a fast-charging hub for heavy-duty electric trucks in the public area of the Port of HaminaKotka, Finland.
The Port of HaminaKotka is the largest universal port in Finland, home to over 100 logistics companies, and a key port within the EU's Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
The PragmaCharge Hub is set to be open by mid-2025.
Logistics companies are able to subscribe to turn-key services, including electric truck leasing and/or charging services, through PragmaCharge’s platform.

Kotka, Finland, 3rd December 2024 – PragmaCharge, the pan-European electric Trucking-as-a-Service (eTaaS) platform, announces its first heavy-duty truck charge point project in Finland. The PragmaCharge Hub will be located in the public area of the Port of HaminaKotka. The hub will be operational 24/7 and strategically located to support Finland’s biggest port, as well as being connected to the European TEN-T core transport network. The Port of HaminaKotka hosts over 100 logistics companies and has more than 1000 daily heavy-duty truck movements, making it an ideal location for one of Finland’s largest heavy-duty electric truck charging hubs. PragmaCharge is proud to support the City of Kotka and the Port of HaminaKotka in their transition towards a Sustainable Mobility future for heavy-duty logistics.
Fast charging hub at the port complements overnight charging at customers’ depots
The PragmaCharge Hub will launch with 4 state-of-the-art Combined Charging System (CCS) DC fast chargers, each delivering up to 400 kW of power, and capable of charging heavy-duty electric trucks in 45 minutes to coincide with legally required driver rest breaks. The number of DC fast chargers will expand to 12 at full operational capacity.
To support customers with their end-to-end journeys using electric trucks, PragmaCharge is also building depot-based charging solutions. Coupled with the fast-charging hub at the Port of HaminaKotka, PragmaCharge can help eliminate emissions from road freight for customers located within 350 kilometers for their export/ import activities from the port.
Assessments of customer journeys to/from the port indicate a potential to save up to 195 tCO2e emissions per truck per year, based on typical payload and distances; equivalent to taking around 35 passenger cars off the road.
Through its turnkey services, PragmaCharge is helping customers to understand initial routes to electrify, selecting trucks suitable to complete desired missions, and providing a deep understanding of how to operationally deploy and scale electric fleets.
PragmaCharge can offer fleet owners an electric Trucking-as-a-Service (eTaaS) solution, including electric truck lease, R&M, charging infrastructure, electricity, and software at a cost-per-km. Or for those who already have their own electric trucks, a Charging-as-a-Service (CaaS) solution at a cost-per-kWh.
Katri Ervasti, Land Manager for the City of Kotka, said:
“The electric charging station to be established on the area leased to PragmaCharge Oy will promote the electrification of public transport and other heavy traffic in Kotka and the entire Kymenlaakso region. The City of Kotka's "Kotka 2030" urban strategy identifies climate and biodiversity as one of its key cross-cutting themes. This theme includes a sustainable mobility programme, which features the transition of public transport towards electric solutions as one of its focal areas.”
Anil Srivastava, CEO and Cofounder of PragmaCharge, said:
“We are pleased to secure this strategic site just outside of the Port of HaminaKotka, the largest port in Finland for international goods export.
We are in ongoing discussions with major customers exporting paper, wood, woodpulp, and steel from the Port of HaminaKotka. PragmaCharge’s electric Trucking-as-a-Service solution including lease of battery electric trucks and fast charging at our charging hub will accelerate electrification of the trucks using the port, and thus help reduce emissions from road freight to meet customer’s NetZero targets.”
Mika Lehmusto, Operations Director of PragmaCharge Oy, said:
“We are truly excited about the opportunity to build a flagship PragmaCharge Charging Hub in Kotka Mussalo harbor and serve the needs of fleet owners, City of Kotka and Port of HaminaKotka by progressing the decarbonization of heavy-duty freight in Finland.
We extend our gratitude to our local partners for their support in making this project a success. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with local partners and suppliers to ensure these projects bring both economic and social benefits to the region. We encourage fleet owners interested in this project or in the decarbonization of freight through electric trucks to contact us.”
