PragmaCharge announces key customer launch for its heavy-duty electric truck charging hub in Valencia, Spain

  • Transnugon group has signed a contract for up to 25 battery electric heavy-duty trucks under PragmaCharge’s electric Trucking-as-a-Service.

  • The vehicles will operate out of PragmaCharge’s flagship MercaValencia charging hub, just outside the Port of Valencia.

  • The site is designed for the needs of operators and their electric trucks, offering a 4MW grid connection and supply of 100% renewable electricity, as well as safe and secure parking with 24/7 driver convenience facilities.

  • MercaValencia charging hub is set to be operational by October 2025.

  • PragmaCharge is in the process of selecting a suitable site to build a charging hub near Madrid, to make Valencia-Madrid corridor electric for logistics transport operators.

Valencia, Spain, 27th November 2024 – PragmaCharge, the pan-European electric Trucking-as-a-Service (eTaaS) platform, announces its first customer contracts for its flagship charging hub located just 3.5 km outside of the Port of Valencia, Spain. The charging hub, strategically located in MercaValencia, a large logistics complex home to over 40 logistics companies and 500 daily truck movements, will be one of the largest electric truck charging hubs in Europe, with capacity for 50 electric HGVs and charging speeds up to 400 kW.

PragmaCharge is proud to support Transnugon group as they transition their heavy-duty fleet to electric, by providing access to battery electric trucks, reliable charging infrastructure and operational software, all through a subscription-based model.

Strategic partnership with Transnugon group

Transnugon is a family business dedicated to national transport in Spain since 1998. It specializes in distribution of consumer food and beverages, with a fleet of more than 100 trucks. By partnering with PragmaCharge, Transnugon will move closer to achieving its goals: “Greener and cleaner transport is possible. We will not stop until we achieve that our fleet is 100% sustainable”

Leadership in truck fleet electrification

Transnugon has signed a 5-year contract with PragmaCharge to lease up to 25 battery electric trucks, starting with 10 vehicles in 2025.

  • The electric trucks will primarily move clean drinking water from Chóvar to Silla, transforming this route into a fully sustainable water delivery operation. Each vehicle is expected to displace ~250 tCO2e per year, equivalent of taking 45 passenger cars off the road.

  • The Transnugon electric fleet will be a 24-hour operation based out of the MercaValencia charging hub. The vehicles will make use of Combined Charging System (CCS2) fast chargers (60 kW DC to 400 kW DC), capable of charging trucks in 45 minutes.

  • Furthermore, PragmaCharge’s Cloud Engine Platform will support Transnugon group’s drivers and transport manager by providing daily charging plans that optimise for lower cost and minimal downtime, making electric trucks dispatch decisions, reserving charging bays, and post mission reporting to track GHG emissions saved.

Pablo Bordils, majority shareholder and CEO of Transnugon, said:

"We are impressed with the electric Truck-as-a-Service offered by PragmaCharge. It is the most holistic solution we have seen. It takes away the capital investment challenges for truck fleet owners. The most differentiating aspect of this solution is PragmaCharge’s connected charging and fleet management software that seamlessly integrates with our system, thus reducing operational complexities in the introduction of electric trucks into our fleet. I am confident that the PragmaCharge solution will help accelerate the electrification of truck fleets and enable a world where greener and cleaner transport is possible. We will not stop until we achieve that our fleet is 100% sustainable.”

Anil Srivastava, CEO and Cofounder of PragmaCharge, said:

“We thank Mr. Bordils for his trust. He has taken leadership through action which I am sure will encourage other forward-looking truck fleet owners and large corporate customers to start their electrification journeys. While pilot programs enable operational testing, PragmaCharge’s solution is designed to deploy truck fleet electrification at scale, thus creating a competitive solution.

The contract with Transnugon provides a solid start for the operation of the charging hub at Valencia for which PragmaCharge has made a multi-million Euro commitment to invest in the site. We have ongoing negotiations with other customers in Valencia and hope to make further announcements in due course. These contracts are a strong endorsement of our differentiated electric Truck-as-a-Service solution and are proof points of the financial viability of our business model.”

Javier Serratosa, Managing Director of PragmaCharge España, SL, said:

“I am pleased to share that we have secured the critical grid connection of 4MW, being implemented in two phases, for the charging hub at MercaValencia. PragmaCharge has also secured a long-term PPA for 100% renewable electricity for the site and for our customers. We are truly excited about the opportunity to build our charging hub in Valencia and serve the needs of local fleet owners.

Given the high volume of container traffic on the Valencia-Madrid-Valencia route, electrification of this corridor will result in significant emissions reduction. This is our commitment to decarbonize heavy-duty freight in Spain.

We would like to thank our local partners in making this project a success, especially the MercaValencia logistic hubs, our engineering partners, Aspor and Vestel, and our charger supplier Power Electronics. We look forward to continuing to work with local partners and suppliers to ensure these projects bring economic and social benefits to the region.”
